Following his debut album on Bitta in 2012, Japanese producer Iori Asano aka IORI covers more experimental and ambient grounds on his second album Cold Radiance. Taking his cues from deep and maudlin music in the Basic Channel tradition, Asano aimed to create a soundtrack to an aerial science fiction movie.
The eight tracks on this album are a long and absorbing affair that slowly unfolds and pulls you right into its grainy core. There are dark, texturally rich tracks that are full of menace as well as more heavenly, suspensory and angelic ambient offerings. Meanwhile, distant drones and mutating synths rub shoulders with bits of alien sound design and hints of real world sombreness.
